Swaffham Museum is a social history museum housed in an 18th
Century grade II listed building in the historic market town of Swaffham
(home to the TV drama “Kingdom country” ). Once described as a “commodious
mansion “ which consisted of a spacious dinning room, drawing room. Entrance
hall breakfast parlour,2 kitchens,
butlers pantry, wine beer and coal cellars, 7bedrooms W.C., and the
essential bath house. Opening this year after extensive refurbishment, the
building is now the home to the collections at Swaffham Museum. About the Volunteers The Museum has a curator, an education officer, a small team of staff, directors and a large team of some thirty plus Volunteers. The team of Volunteers have made a major contribution to enabling this valuable resource to become operational and successful. “ Our Volunteers are always prepared to take on any job “ Indeed they do ! The roles carried out by Volunteers include :- Directors , Stewards, Research assistants, Educational assistants, and Guides. As many of these roles involve contact with vulnerable adults and children, the Volunteers have been referred to the Swaffham Volunteer Centre ( run by West Norfolk Voluntary and Community Action ( WNVCA ) for the essential CRB checks. The duties carried out by the Volunteers can be many and varied and may include:-
Sorting, listing contents, cataloging all artifacts and storage. The Museum is continuing to develop activities and during July – October has been offering Swaffham Town Time Trail walks – you guessed – delivered by the Volunteers !
