Partnership News January 2008
Local Area Agreement:
 Post Offices

As you most probably have heard, the Post Office will be shutting more local post offices in Norfolk and we expect the list to be published in late March. At the present time, the partnership team are working with the Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk to help rural West Norfolk parishes to put together plans so that the individual parishes can try and prevent these closures. If you have any concerns about your local post office, or if you hear that it is closing, please contact Peter Morris on 01553 760568 or by email peter@westnorfolkvca.org. You can also contact Jackie Squires at the Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk on 01553 616200 or by email jackie.squires@West-Norfolk.gov.uk

Community Car Schemes
Following on from the news that the taxi legislation will change we understand that the Borough recognise the valuable service community cars provide but are not sure of the impact pf the legislation, particularly around the term ‘Hire and Reward’. They along with other district authorities have made a request to clarify this, does it mean for profit or not for profit. For more information, or help please contact Peter Morris on 01553 760568 or by email peter@westnorfolkvca.org.

Parish Fund
The West Norfolk Partnership Management Board have agreed to use the Second Homes Parish Fund to support a six month pilot neighbourhood working project within the Hunstanton, Burnham Market, Dersingham and Gayton neighbourhood areas. The aim of this project is to build on existing networks and enlarge the reach of the Safer Neighbourhood Surgeries which operate in all areas. These surgeries enable local residents to bring their concerns on neighbourhood safety to local police officers. We hope this will broaden and enhance the community involvement in local issues and assist in the parish’s in identifying  ‘improvements’ so that services will become more responsive to local issues.

Welcome Pack Launch
Watch out for the launch of the updated Welcome to West Norfolk pack in six languages at Easter (English, Russian, European Portuguese, Latvian, Lithuanian and Polish). This booklet contains lots of information about services, local groups and ‘how to’ guides for those coming new to West Norfolk. The pack can be picked up at community venues such as libraries and voluntary groups as well as council offices and the police station; it will also be available on-line through the Partnership and West Norfolk VCA website. Following a successful request for additional funds we will be producing the pack as a ‘spoken book’ and details of this will be available at the launch. If you need any more information please contact Daisy at West Norfolk VCA by email daisy@westnorfolkvca.org or telephone on 01553 760568.
