Volunteer Opportunities in specific areas of West Norfolk:-

Bircham:-

RAF Bircham Newton Memorial Project: The project is looking to create a small pool of volunteers to help develop the heritage room and occasionally man the room when open to the public or invited visitors. This would be an ideal opportunity for an ex-RAF member or someone with an interest in aviation, planes, and aviation history.


Brancaster:-

Brancaster C of E V A Primary School: A volunteer is required to listen to children read and to help with a small group of children.


Dersingham:-

Dersingham Bog: Voluntary Wardens are needed to help pa䐀 the reserve, leading and assisting with guided tours, scrub clearance, fencing, pathway maintenance and species habitat recording.


Downham Market:-

Chinwag Talking Newspapers: Can you help with Chinwag Talking newspapers?  Help is needed with the production and distribution of  1-hour news tapes produced for the blind and partially sighted in Downham Market and the surrounding district. 

Crossroads Caring for Carers: The Norfolk Young Carers Project provides young carers (between the ages of 7 & 16) with a break from their caring duties, a chance to have fun & support when needed.  Group support workers are required help organise activities, supervise children and provide support.

EACH - East Anglia's Children's Hospices: EACH are looking for fundraising and shop volunteers in the West Norfolk area. In September, EACH will be opening a charity shop in Downham Market and are looking for willing volunteers to work both on the shop floor and behind the scenes. Opportunities are also available in a host of areas not just shop work, they are always looking for willing volunteers to help them with picking up and dropping off collecting boxes, attending events, creating and maintaining friends groups, public speaking - as well as many other areas. If you are willing to help they will find a job tailored to your needs.


East Winch:-

RSPCA Norfolk Wildlife Hospital: Help is required to care for animals – cleaning animal accommodation, washing up, helping out in general. Opportunities are available to help with fundraising as well. Volunteers are required to help anytime between the hours of 0800am – 2215pm everyday. Times are negotiable, but a regular commitment is asked for.


Feltwell:-

Easier Gardening Trust:The Easier Gardening Trust is a new venture, currently being developed between Feltwell and Southery.  It’s aim is to help people with disabilities to garden.  The project is in its early stages of development and is due to open in 2007.  Due to increasing administrative tasks, there is a requirement for a volunteer administrative helper to assist with letter writing, producing leaflets and posters, etc.  It is expected that this may suit someone wishing to work from home. Volunteers are also needed to help in site development. 


King’s Lynn:-

Appropriate Adult Scheme: Volunteer Appropriate Adults are required to support vulnerable adults and juveniles who have been arrested and detained in police custody.  The scheme covers all Norfolk however for this opportunity volunteers would operate on a rota basis through King’s Lynn police station.  Volunteers are particularly required in King’s Lynn.

Dyspraxia Play Scheme Helper: Saturday / Holiday Club for children with dyspraxia and their families are looking for volunteers to assist, teach and supervise children between the ages of four and sixteen years old. Volunteers would be required between the hours of 9.30am – 2.30pm on Saturdays. Activities of the club include IT, music, touch typing, ball skills, life skills, arts & crafts, drama, tai chi and outings.

Forward & Futures Day Centre Volunteer: A ‘Working with Special Needs’ volunteer is required to work with people with learning difficulties and special needs between the ages of 19 and 83. All types of activities undertaken by the day centre users including arts, crafts, fitness, sport & computers. Any help gratefully welcomed.

Mr Bees Family Centre: Mr Bees are looking for Childcare Assistant Volunteers and Counselling Volunteers, if you are interested please contact us. 


Magdalen:-

Pre School Support Worker: Can you help at Magdalen village Hall Pre-School group?  Help is needed with supporting the staff in the group & on outings.  The volunteer needs to enjoy conversing with young children and have an interest in encouraging their independence and development as individuals.


Methwold:-

Age Concern Day Centre Volunteers: Methwold Day Centre is looking for volunteers to socialise with service users (people with physical disabilities). This includes helping with activities, making refreshments and washing up. Assisting with outings also required.


Swaffham:-

Citizen’s Advice Bureau: Volunteer advisers are required to provide practical information and help to clients.  They will be supported by a comprehensive training programme and an up to the minute information system. 

Garden Science Trust: A Support Volunteer is needed for this Gardening Group to enable people with learning difficulties to develop skills and potential through gardening and science.  People of all abilities are also needed to help to maintain and develop our garden plot

Home Start: Home visiting volunteers are required to support families with at least one small child, experiencing some form of difficulty. 

Olive Tree Project: The Olive Tree Project is a support service for victims and survivors of abuse who need regular help and support.  An Administration Assistant is required, duties will include answering the phone, mail-outs and other associated administration tasks.


Tilney St Lawrence:-

The William Day Centre: The Centre provides day care for the elderly, people with special needs through poor mental health or physical disabilities who choose to live in the community.  Activities include bowls, crafts, throwing games, collage and computer skills.  Help is needed to support the care staff with providing these activities.
