West Norfolk Voluntary & Community Action is a voluntary organisation which is set up and owned by local groups to support, promote and develop local voluntary and community action. We support our members by providing them with a range of services and by acting as a voice for the local voluntary and community sector. WNVCA receives funding from Norfolk County Council, The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and West Norfolk Primary Care Trust. We work within western Norfolk and surrounding areas. WNVCA is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. We are also a member of the National Association of Voluntary & Community Action (NAVCA), the England-wide organisation bringing together over 300 CVS. In addition we are accredited members of Volunteering England (VE). WNVCA is an infrastructure organisation. Our role is to support, promote and develop local voluntary and community action through the following key functions: □ Services and Support We promote the effectiveness of local voluntary and community groups by providing them with a range of services. In West Norfolk they include access to basic facilities such as photocopiers, laminating and loan of equipment or more involved services such as payroll and assistance with writing of Constitutions. We also support local groups through regular newsletters, training and funding advice. □ Liaison As a focal point for the local voluntary and community sector, we encourage networking between individuals and groups within the sector and between local groups and the statutory and private sectors. This allows groups to learn from one another, establish contacts and work more effectively. □ Representation With government encouraging involvement of the voluntary and community groups in shaping and delivering services, we enable the views of local groups to be represented. For example via forums and our annual conferences which provide an opportunity for local groups to put forward their views on national and local policies. □ Development Work Over the years, the local voluntary and community sector has pioneered some of the essential public services that we now take for granted. Child protection and care for the elderly, for example, had their origins in and were developed by, the voluntary sector. In West Norfolk we take the lead in identifying gaps in service provision and work with groups to develop new and innovative services to meet these needs. |
